POWER? YOU WANT POWER? WE DELIVER........................AGAIN!
With the release of the original MK1 FMT, we brought you the most complete, easiest to install turbo kit for the MX5 NC. Now, with the MK2 FMT, we introduce the baddest of the bad for those of you that have the need for SERIOUS POWER!
BUILT LIKE A TANK, MK2 STYLE!
When we designed the original MK1 FMT kit, one of our biggest tasks was designing and manufacturing an exhaust manifold that would not only work well, but last. We spent a great deal of time working out the stainless alloy to use, the design of the flange, and even the weldment and heat treatment processes. And we learned a lot! We then took this information and applied it to the new MK2 design. And again, we think we have hit the mark! We begain the project with the knowlege that the new system needed more exhaust flow to increase the turbine efficiency so we could generate more output. To do this we redesigned the exhaust manifold to work with the higher flow from the 2.5 engines, and still keep the "built like a tank" part.
Built from stainless alloy, the manifold starts out with a 1/2 inch thick, laser cut flange. This is then mated to a set of jig built primary tubes fabricated from schedule 40 pipe. The whole manifold it jig welded in an fully enclosed argon enviroment to avoid carbon incusion, and promote complete penetration at all the weldments. Welding is a three part process; flange welding the jonts, filler welding, and a last pass with a cap weld. Last, the completed unit is allowed to temper, and then the head to manifold flange is surfaced perfectly flat to insure no sealing issues( a really big deal we saw on many other manifolds). This thing is a tank folks, it is not going to fail on you( we back it up with a 3 year warranty, thats how sure we are).
ONE OF THE MOST EFFICIENT TURBO DESIGNS ON THE MARKET
When we started the design of the MK2, we knew we wanted to use the best turbo for our application. For many years that had been the Borg Warner EFR, but we knew something better was just over the horizon, and we think it was well worth the wait. The new G series by Garrett features a 48 mm compressor inducer, with all new compressor aerodynamics, a stainless turbine housing, and a new MAR-M alloy turbine wheel. We have designed our MK2 to work with the G25 550, and its big brother, the G25 660( for those that want REALLY BIG POWER!).
WHY LEAVE A GOOD THING ALONE?
While, the Garret G25 series turbo assembly is the newest and in our opinion, the best design on the market, we just could not leave well enough alone! Our 1 Goal version comes with a few high performance tweeks that we think make it perfect; A slightly different turbine design for quicker spool, ceramic ball bearings, and a adjustable waste gate, which allows us to tailor the boost to fit the application from mild to wild without having to change the entire canister. As with our MK1 kit we offer the option of a genuine Garret turbo assembly, or our own bespoke version. Our bespoke G25 turbo is built exclusively for 1 Goal by one of the largest turbo manufactures in the world, and comes with a 3 year warranty.
CHANGES ARE GOOD, RIGHT?
Since the MK2 was built around the newest turbo design on the market, the G25-550, we have integrated the new design manifold and downpipe, as well as inlet air tubing, into the original MK1 air circuit to allow the new design to work it's magic. The new MK2 uses the original MK1 intercooler, and CAT (Charge Air Tubing)which were designed to handle output up to 550 WHP on an NC. The results are stunning and pretty much speak for themselves!
POWER LEVELS AT THE FLICK OF A SWITCH!
One of the best parts of our new MK2 FMT turbo system is the new fully integrated electronic boost control. You can go from semi sedate street power to Corvette killing output with nothing more than the flick of a switch. No need to open the hood to twiddle MBC knobs, or even move out of the comfort of the drivers seat, just switch, and feel the serious increase in output to the wheels!
Dynotronics worked with Ecutek on this new version of RaceRom for about 7 months to fine tune the software to work in harmony with the factory Denso ECU. We then designed and built a "plug-n-play" hardware solution that allows you to go to full electronic boost control with nothing more than a simple harness, and one new control soleniod. The installation is factory level, and seamless. Think about it........... true power level changes you can see and feel, all with the change of RaceRom modes with the steering wheel buttons, or your smart device! EcuTek FTW!
OPTIONS, YOU WANT OPTIONS?
While we thought we had pretty much covered the goals we set up to achieve with the MK2, we decided to really push the envolope and give you some serious power options with this kit. How about a true, fully integrated flex fuel? Yes, you read that right FLEX FUEL!
While EcuTek was doing a major overhaul on the RaceRom software for the NC, we asked them to please work out a way to do flex fuel, and they have delivered, AGAIN! With our new optional Flex Fuel hardware kit, and using EcuTek's new version of RaceRom, you can have a fully integrated flex fuel system on your car that allows you to easily go from pump gas all the way up to full E85 while doing nothing more than adding ethanol to your tank. 1 gallon or 10 gallons, the ratio does not matter, the new RaceRom from EcuTek will figure out the percentage, and automaticly correct for ignition, fuel, and boost to give you the best output!
Why would you want to run flex? Well the simple answer is power; a car running the same manifold pressure will make 60-70 MORE WHP when running as little are 40% ethanol mixed with pump gas! And for those folks that have always been stuck running crappy 91 octane, and knock limited, this is nothing less than a God send. Think about it; if you live in CA and are running boosted, you have been giving up a huge amount of power that you can now reclaim with the simple addition of this option, and a fill up at your local E85 station!
As an added bonus, ethanol runs cleaner and cooler, and will increase your oil change intervals in most cases.
EXHAUSTING ALL THE POSSIBLITIES......
To make the output that the MK2 is capable of requires an exhaust sized to handle the flow it can produce. We looked around and found the aftermarket somwhat lacking on this goal. While we are not in the exhaust system business, we felt we needed to produce a system that would compliment, rather than hinder the MK2 FMT output.
To this end Dynotronics, and 1 Goal spent the engineering time to go back to the drawing board and design a complete 3" stainless turbo back exhaust SYSTEM. Not a thrown together hodge podge of parts from various vendors, but a COMPLETE system designed to not only handle the power this turbo system can put out, but to look and sound good while doing its job.
To do this, we looked at the entire layout and pin pointed the areas where other 3" systems were falling short;
1. The turbo to downpipe interface. This is the area where most turbo systems lose a great deal of efficiency. If there is restriction here, your turbo will not work to its true potential. To solve this, we designed a one piece front midpipe and downpipe assembly with intergrated 3" cataylist. It features a 300 cell count, spirial wound metalic media that will flow enough to handle 750 whp. We also included a high quality flex system upstream of the cataylist to reduce flexing and breakage over time we so often see.
2. The resonator. All systems really need to have a resonator. This part is what "tones down" the frequencies in the exhaust and actually changes them to work in conjuction with the muffler on the end of the system to produce the desired tone, and the sound you want. Selecting the wrong resonator to use with a given set of components in a system will give you the "drone" you so often hear people talk about. We actually went to a well known muffler company and had a resonator designed to work with the pipe size, length, and muffler(s) we were working with.
3. The muffler. Well, what can you say about a muffler? Its there to make the sytem quiet, right? Well it turns out thats not really all there is to it. One of the biggest errors we have seen in other systems is the flow rating and size of the inlet tube of the common NC turbo system muffler. We have always scratched our heads when we looked at these set ups and wondered why would you run a 3" midpipe into a 2.5" muffler inlet that feeds two 2" muffler outlet pipes. It's just dumb. The trick is to find a muffler that will work with the correct frequency from the resonator, has the correct size inlet and outlet for the flow, AND will produce the sound you want. It's not an easy task to get it right.
So what we ended up with is a complete system built out of 304 stainless with minimal bends, high flow rate, paired resonator and muffler with twin 2.5" outlets( single tip is in the works), matched to the potential of the turbo system itself. No rattles, no leaks, and no drone! Sexy mid range tone, with a touch of snarl at full chat.
We offer this exhaust system as an option for the MK2 FMT. You can build, or have built a complete 3" system of your own for your car. However, we are pretty sure you will not find a better system, at a more reasonable price point.
AND THE BEST PART (AGAIN)....................
There is no cutting of the chassis to install this kit. You will need to enlarge 2, 6 mm holes in the front cross member, trim the under car plastic tray and trim one factory hose. But other than that its a complete bolt on system. Why is this important? Two reasons; 1) installation is a snap, and, 2) you can return the car to stock with zero traces of the kit should you ever need to!
The plumbing is all mandrel bent stainless steel tubing. The exhaust manifold is ceramic coated standard.
The kits come complete with;
corrrect size injectors
fuel pump
electronic boost control kit
hoses, and stainless t bar clamps
3 bar map sensor and adapter
stainless steel charge air tubing
Powercoated alloy MAF tube
gaskets, and hardware
tuning file( ecutek hardware/license, and software not included)
a full set of detailed, illustrated instructions
and every nut, bolt and fitting you need to install at home.
Due to production times, these kits should ship in 3-5 weeks, however we reserve the right to delay shipment for up to one additional week. If shipping will be delayed, you will be notified via email before hand. We will make every effort to assure this does not happen, but in some cases we are at the mercy of our vendors for some parts. Due to the custom nature of this product, there will be a 50% restocking fee for canceled orders once production has begun.
