Turbo kit incorporates an AVO18/49 water cooled turbocharger with an internal wastegate using a 5psi actuator. The turbo mounts to AVO’s impressive custom stainless steel cast exhaust manifold. The exhaust manifold is ceramic coated combating excessive heat under the hood. The exhaust manifold was designed to bolt directly to the stock header and AVO’s upgraded ceramic coated stainless steel downpipe. Keeping all that pressurized air cool is no easy task. AVO has you covered by including one of their industry leading aluminum bar and plate front mount intercoolers. The intercooler kit uses AVO’s world-renowned high quality reinforced custom black silicone piping.
AVO didn’t leave anything uncovered when making this turbo kit. AVO includes all the water/oil lines and fittings making this a true direct bolt on kit. No modifications are necessary making this kit an easy install. This turbo kit has been designed to bolt up to the stock air intake box base. AVO includes their Flat Panel Air Filter and Air Box Lid to maintain the OEM look. There’s no need to worry about the fuel system. During extensive testing AVO spent a lot of time ensuring it will work with the standard fueling system for a complete bolt on and drive setup. One of the most sought-after features of this kit was AVO’s ability to maintain the OE look! The oversized front mount intercooler has been specifically designed to fit with the standard bumper beam without trimming or modification. When the hood is popped it would be hard even for an enthusiast eye to recognize anything that’s been modified or tweaked for additional power.
Turbo kit comes complete with a base tuning file developed specifially for this kit, and designed to work on commonly available 93 octane pump gasoline. Custom tuning can completed for other types of fuel for an additional charge. Remote installs/tuning will require the purchase of our MazdaEdit software/hardware package.
So what is so special about this kit?
Building on the industry standard AVO stage 1 and Stage 2 kits, AVO focused development for the stage 3 kit on the shortcomings of the factory Mazda crankcase ventilation system. It has long been know that the factory PCV system on the Skyactiv engine in the ND is its Achilles heal with huge amounts of blow by being deposited in the engine's intake tract. This leads to contanination of the intake ports and dilution of the air charge. This can lead to poor airflow as well as loss of power.
Couple this with the fact the factory PCV is a know leak when an FI system is installed, allowing charge air under pressure to reverse flow into the crank case. This loss of airflow an reduce FI efficiency by a factor of 50%. So while your turbo is making enough air flow to produce 6-8 lbs of boost, you would only be seeing 3-4 lbs at the actual intake port. Not a good situation!
AVO solved this issue with a very novel approach; removing the factory PCV valve in favor of a remote mounted, high performance version, then re-designing the entire system so the harmful crankcase vapors are trapped in a three stage catch tank. This allows only clean, oil free air to reach the factory intake and then to the combustion chamber, giving your engine not only the full air charge from your turbo system, but also removing any chance of coking on the intake valves and allowing the full ignition advance with less chance of dilution "knock". The result is more power at a much greater volumetric efficiency!
Can the exhaust make a difference on an FI set up?
The stage 2 and stage 3 kits come complete with the AVO stainless high flow exhuast including rear muffler. And there is a good reason why;
When AVO designed the original Stage 1 turbo kit for the ND, they found that the factory system, while great for the stock car, is really a cork when run on an forced induction ND. In fact in testing it was determinded that the stock exhaust can cost 35-40% in power losses. To that end, the wizards at AVO designed a high flow system that includes a 5" catalytic converter that can not only handle the high flow of a forced induction set up, but also do it with a civilised voice that adds to the visceral appeal of your car. No loud obnoxious tones to upset the folks of the blue persuasion, OR your neighbors. Just a nice sexy exhaust note and enough flow to allow you to produce 300+ whp!

In a word, YES! AVO tests each part of its kits to failure, so you don't have any!
Case in point;
AVO found a straight 4 cylinder manifold is susceptible to cracking over time. The factory tubular design has proven to fail prematurely. AVO designed and manufactured a cast Stainless Steel Manifold giving our customers a product they can depend on.
The intercooler tanks are made from cast aluminum to get the best flow and reliability. All intercoolers are pressure tested from the factory and powder coated to make sure they protected from any debris or grime from daily road driving.
High quality fasteners, clamps and hosing are included with each kit. These are all designed for long life and are, unlike some kits, not "off the shelf" parts, but rather designed for the kit you purchase.
Room to grow?
The AVO Turbocharger kit suits many performance options. It works amazingly well for low boost applications running the 5psi actuator on pump gas. It also has enough headroom for customers who’ve gone beyond stock engine components running 15psi on a 2.0L engine equipped to handle E85 fuel producing 400whp.
Ease of installation?
Under normal conditions this kit can be installed in 7-8 hours from start to finish. This job is much easier to perform using a lift and proper tools. One of the hardest portions of this install is removing the stock header. You’re required to remove the engine mounts which will make installing the turbo kit much easier. The only modification to any OEM part is to trim the plastic under tray beneath the engine. It needs two 2.5” holes to be cut with a box knife or cutting tool. This will allow proper fitment of the silicone intercooler pipes. Other than that, the installation is straight forward for most independent technicians or DIY’s.
Tuning? Whats so special?
AVO and Dynotronics have spent literally thousands of man hours testing, defining, and perfecting the flash tuning for these ND turbo kits. In a collaborative effort, we have designed the base tuning file for these kits that is exactly correct for your set up, be it the low boost base stage 1 kit, or the mac daddy stage 3. We have also worked hand in hand with the developers at Mazdaedit to get a software that will allow you the ease of use to program then data log your system to prefection.
