DREAMS ARE THE BIRTHPLACE OF REALITY. WELCOME TO THE NEW REALITY........WITH A BOOST!
A HISTORY LESSON
Years ago, if you wanted the easy button for more power for your MX5 NC, you simply picked up the phone and ordered a Supercharger from Flyin Miata. Originally designed and built by Magnuson Superchargers for the folks at Cosworth, these kits were later picked up by Flyin Miata when Cosworth had no success marketing them. We installed quite a few of these units and were the official tuner for these kits through Flyin Miata for many years.
The Flyin Miata Super Charger (FMSC) was of the roots design and could deliver a solid 70-85 whp bump in output when installed along with a good exhaust system on the stock 2.0 engine. Over the years these kits, modified, and installed on the larger 2.5 engine have reportedly produced outputs as high as 300 whp.
Unfortunately, Flyin Miata was forced to drop the FMSC when rising production costs placed them beyond the means of the average NC owner. That was a sad day indeed for the MX5 community.
LESSONS LEARNED
When we learned that the FMSC was no longer going to be available, we decided to try to fill the void left in the market. Yes there are now lots of Forced Induction solutions for the NC on the market, including a pair of our own design, but none of them quite hit the sport where the old FMSC lived. So we sat down and laid out a set of criteria to guide us along the path;
1. produces a solid 70-80 whp jump in power
2. installs in 4-5 hours
3. costs in the low to mid 4 k range
4. returns slightly better fuel mileage than the stock 2.0( 29-30 mpg)
5. is almost impossible to detect if ya open the hood
6. has the linear boost curve of a FMSC
And, while we were at it, we decided to try to solve the one Achilles heal of the FMSC, its tendency to flat run out of breath above 6500 on the free reving MZR 2.0!
A LONG JOURNEY FORWARD
What began as a "what if" idea in 2016 has now become a reality for the MX5 community. Remote mounted Turbochargers are nothing new, they have been used as far back as World War 2 in the awesome P47 fighter aircraft with HUGE success. We looked into this and decided to take a stab at designing a remote kit to hit both the NC and our design criteria. It was not easy to do correctly, and took almost 7 years to bring from original design to production model that you see listed here for sale. There were many issues that had to be figured out, some obvious, and some not so. Some problems that took years to solve, and many changes to the original design to make things fit and work perfectly.
WHY?
Well, that's a good question! We already produce a front mounted turbo kit that will make the 2.0 easily hit over 300 whp. And honestly, many many times along this journey we thought about just dropping the project. However every time we did we would get a email prompting us to keep the faith and finish the long journey. Clients would stop by and see the kit on a mule car and tell us how cool it was and how they wished they could get their hands on one, and state "I will buy the first one you offer for sale", or something along those lines. We also had encouragement from to of the industries biggest names, Bill Cardell and Corky Bell, to complete the design and produce the kits for sale.
And all of those are great reasons to finish, but the real reason is very simple, the Stealth Turbo kits are just so damned COOL!
SO, HOW DID WE DO?
Well, in the final analysis, you the buyer will be the judge. But I can say with confidence that we met and even exceeded out original design criteria. You will see from the dyno sheet attached that we have gone far beyond the original intended 70~whp increase on a stock 2.0, and are able to produce well over 100 additional hp while still keeping the factory fuel pump and clutch happy.
IS THIS FOR ME?
I have been asked a bunch over the last few years "who is the intended market?" Well that's a good question, and the answer is pretty simple;
1. if you have a situation where you "might" need to remove the kit for a few days for some reason, and you want easy on easy off, then its for you
2. If you don't want to mess with changing the fuel pump, or clutch( as long as its in good shape), then this is for you
3. If you have need, for legal reason, to have the engine stock appearing, then this is for you
4. If you always wanted the power curve of the old FMSC, then this is for you.
5. if you need to leave all the factory emissions intact for legal reasons, then this kit is your dream come true.
6. If you are like me and think this is just too damned cool for words, this is for you!
WHAT DO WE GET?
OK, that's the question of the hour! In short, you get everything required to install the Stealth Turbo kit, every nut, bolt and clamp. All required sensors, injectors. tubing, and hoses. A complete EcuTek based tuning file dialed in for your fuel and area of the world. Full lifetime updates and file revisions.
The kit will come in two cartons, with the turbo assembly and exhaust all assembled and ready to bolt onto the car. You simply remove the muffler, install the charge air tube assembly onto the chassis, route the front tube( or install the intercooler if you option it), tighten a few clamps, connect a few hoses, and change the injectors and the kit is ready to get its base file for the ecu and drive down the street. It really is that simple folks!
The turbocharger, the very heart of the kit, is a bespoke GT28 with dual ceramic ball bearing and billet compressor wheel. They are designed, built, assembled and tested right here in the United States.
OPTIONS? YOU WANT OPTIONS??
In a word, yes! Over the years we have had some good suggestions as to what options you guys might like. Things like,
1. ceramic coating on the turbo and housings to be a bit less conspicuous
2. an intercooler option. It is not required for regular street driving on the base kit, but its great for autox and track days
3. MORE POWER!!! Yes, the kit WILL DELIVER more power if tweaked. We have seen over 300 with an aftermarket exhaust, and our "Trac-Pac" option. The Trac-Pac, includes larger injectors, the intercooler kit, a larger fuel pump, an electronic boost control unit that interfaces with the ecutek via the CAN bus and allows us to increase and tailor the manifold pressure to massage the power curve for you serious track folks( and even those of you who just want MORE POWER!!
Due to production times, these kits should ship in 3-5 weeks, however we reserve the right to delay shipment for up to one additional week.
